This explains what CelebrantDay collects, what we use it for and who else sees it. We keep it to what the service needs.
What we collect
When you create an account: your email and a password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in readable form), your name, and optionally your phone, country, city, profile photo and birthday.
When you make a keepsake: the titles, messages, photos, music choices and event date you add, and the wishes people leave.
When you send a wish: your message, the name you choose to show (or “Anonymous”), the gift you picked, and the email address used for the payment so Paystack can process it.
When you withdraw earnings: your saved bank account (bank, account number and the account name confirmed by your bank), and your withdrawal history.
When you verify your identity: your full name, date of birth, National Identification Number (NIN) and a photo of your ID document. A person on our team reviews it. If you submit again, the earlier document is replaced rather than kept alongside it.
Automatically: a random identifier stored in your browser when you view a keepsake, so we can tell a repeat open from a new one for the owner’s view counts. It identifies a browser, not a person. We also keep your sign-in session and theme choice in your browser’s storage.
What we use it for
- To run your account, keepsakes and the public link.
- To take payments, credit earnings and send withdrawals.
- To check identity before money leaves the platform, and to prevent fraud and misuse.
- To show owners how many people opened their keepsake and how many wishes arrived.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
We don’t sell your personal information.
Who sees it
- People with a keepsake link can see what the owner chose to publish, and the wishes shown on it. A card with a passcode shows nothing but its cover until the correct passcode is entered.
- Paystack processes payments, verifies bank account names and sends withdrawals, so it receives the details needed for that, such as amounts, payer email and bank account details.
- Our team can see account, payment and verification information as needed to run the service, review identity checks and settle withdrawals.
- We may disclose information where the law requires it.
Anonymous wishes
If you send anonymously, your name is not shown to the owner or anyone else on the card. We still keep the payment record, because payments always leave a trail.
Security
Passwords are hashed and card passcodes are never sent to the browser. Identity documents are kept out of public access and are viewable only by our reviewers. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Your choices
- You can edit your profile and keepsakes, and delete a keepsake you own.
- You can choose to hide your birth year on your profile.
- You can resubmit an identity check if it was rejected, and decide whether to appear in Celebrate Mates.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. See also our Terms of Service and How payments work.
